History   John's family was not of a military background.  Growing up in a small town in Montana, John had dreamed of escaping the hum-drum of country life for the city lights.  During his senior year of High School, John attended a career fair and soon found his ticket out.  Signing up with the United States Air Force, John attended the Air Force Academy.  Upon graduation, John was sent around the globe serving as a Fighter Pilot.  In 1990, John was assigned to an elite Air Force Special Operations Team and worked the next 8 years on highly classified operations.  John found himself involved in the blackest of black operations when he was assigned as part of the Stargate program in 1998.  Under the direction of some of the most elite members of the Stargate program, John was assigned as an off world team leader for the SG-8 medical team.  With the discovery of  the Atlantis location and the Atlantis teams stranded status, John was reassigned to the Prometheus as a Squadron Leader in preparation for the long Journey to Atlantis.  During preparations, John was injured defending the Prometheus during a rogue attack by the Jaffa Freedom Fighters.

John's return to active duty found him serving as a supporting member of the SGC.  He assisted in the training of new SG members and participated in the design elements of the new class of war ships.  In late 2005, Daniel Jackson unraveled the mystery of the Lemuria tablet.  This ushered in a revitalized effort to seek advanced technology and allies to fend off the Ori and Wraith.  John was assigned to be the military mission leader under the command of Doctor Edward Ashkenazi.
